The Rhyme Game is a free browser game for practicing rhymes and freestyle rap. Words come at you on a beat, you answer with a rhyming word, and the game checks your pronunciation against open dictionaries. If you turn the mic on, a speech detector running inside your browser scores whether the word landed on the beat. Your audio doesn't go anywhere. It can't — the whole mic pipeline lives on your device. It's the drill I practice with myself, most days.

Who makes it

One person, and a beginner at this. Around here I go by MC Onbeat — the name I practice under, build under, and answer mail under. I started practicing freestyle a few months ago, and the wall I kept hitting was the obvious one — you sort of know the rhymes, but you can't pull them up fast enough when the beat is running. The only fix is reps. Everything I tried for reps was either an app that wanted my email first, or a static word list that felt like homework. So I built the tool I actually wanted, and put it on the web in case other learners had the same problem.

Turns out they did. Players write to [email protected] and I read every mail. The word pools, the beat handling, the mobile layout, the Russian and Spanish versions — all of those changed because someone wrote in and told me something was off. If something bugs you, that address is the fastest way to change the game.

How it stays free

No account, no paywall. Hosting and development time cost real money though, so pages here may show ads served by third-party vendors, Google included. How that works, and how to opt out of personalized ads, is in the privacy policy. One thing worth saying out loud: ads never touch the microphone. The mic code runs on your device, full stop.

Where the words and beats come from

English rhymes are judged with the CMU Pronouncing Dictionary. Russian rhyme data builds on Wiktionary data via Kaikki.org (CC BY-SA). Beats play through the official YouTube or SoundCloud players. The music belongs to the people who made it — nothing gets hosted or re-uploaded here.

The example bars in the game and on the dictionary pages are AI drafts that I read and edit by hand, every single line. About one pair in fifteen gets a rewrite before it ships. The AI gives me volume; the taste is mine.

The deal

The Rhyme Game is free and comes as-is. I do my best to keep it online and the dictionaries accurate, but there's no warranty it's up at any given moment, and no promise every rhyme it suggests is one you'd pick yourself. Use it to practice and get better. That's what it's for.

What's yours, what's mine

Your scores, streaks, and custom beat library sit in your own browser's local storage. I never see them. The site's design, code, and writing are mine. The dictionary data belongs to its open licenses (CMU Pronouncing Dictionary; Wiktionary, CC BY-SA), and the beats belong to their creators and platforms.

Fair play

Don't hammer the service with automated requests, don't try to break it, don't use it for anything illegal. The leaderboard is for real play. Scores that are obviously scripted or faked can get wiped without notice.

Changes

If these terms change, the date at the top of this page changes with them. Anything big gets called out on the site itself. Questions about any of this go to [email protected].
